Motivated by a desire to leave their positions in the corporate dining world and start a venture based on cooperative principles, husband and wife team and Johnson & Wales graduates Jason and Shannon Ladd set out in 2013 to create an establishment that felt like they were entertaining guests in their own home. Jason and Shannon were fortunate to come across a site that at first glance felt like a place where they would enjoy sitting down for a drink.
Located at 118 Ferry Street in Malden, Massachusetts, the site has assumed many identities over the years from the former home to Revere Knitting Mills to most recently neighborhood watering holes such as Jimmy O’Keefe’s, the Shamrock Inn, and No 9 Ale House. There is even a rumor that the ghost of a former patron still haunts his seat at the bar.
Jason and Shannon want to maintain the look, feel and accessibility of a classic neighborhood tavern, with its rich wood paneling and ornate, mirrored bar while providing a menu that will attract those with a refined palate for food and drink.
Ferry Street Food & Drink truly is a family affair since Jason and Shannon have recently been joined by Jason’s younger brother John as an operations manager. The family at Ferry Street looks forward to serving the community in their new “home” and contributing to the rich history of the city of Malden for years to come.
